![]() Parents are asked to fill out an audition form that can be downloaded from the theater’s Web site: Children who can are asked to read from a provided script. ![]() The audition process is designed to be as painless as possible: All the kids are asked to do is show up. Auditions will be March 4 and 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jerry Uppinghouse will direct Jack and the Beanstalk, which will run April 13 through 29. So, if you attend one of the final five performances of Tikki Tikki Tembo and your child is bitten by the theater bug, there are opportunities to join in the fun right around the corner. The by-laws further state that there will be no exceptions to that prime directive. The by-laws for the organization state that each and every show must include children making their first appearance on stage. Like all of the productions at Theater Arts for Children, the aim is simple: to give children opportunities to get involved with theater. In addition to Ken Boles writing and directing, his wife, Jill, provided costumes, his daughter chorographed the production and his son helps with lights and sound. ![]() The play has been a Boles family project. Not to give the story away, but the moral here is that, from that time forward, Chinese parents give their children short names. His monogram reads: TTTNSHKBPPDHKPPNNMDB. The story is based on a chain tale from China about a young boy with a distinctive moniker: Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sarimbo Hari Kari Bushkie Perry Pem Do Hai Kai Pom Pom Nikki No Meeno Dom Barako. Theater Arts for Children’s productions are staged at the Spokane Valley Community Center, 10814 E. Spokane Valley actor/director Ken Boles adapted the children’s story Tikki Tikki Tembo for the stage and directs the production that opened last weekend and continues today, Sunday and concludes with three more performances next weekend. Theater Arts for Children’s latest production is as much a caution for future parents as it is an entertaining play for kids.
